Omen AI adds liquid know-how in $16 million Aquatic Labs acquisition
The smartest thing Omen AI did here was realize it couldn't keep playing pure software while the water problem kept getting worse. Data centers are hitting physical limits, and cooling is becoming the bottleneck that no amount of clever algorithms can fix alone. Buying Aquatic Labs for $16 million feels like a practical admission that the real money and real impact live in the pipes, pumps, and chillers, not just the dashboard.
What I find compelling is the timing. Every hyperscaler is tripping over itself to announce water-positive commitments, but nobody's really cracked how to measure and manage water usage in real time across sprawling facilities. Pairing Omen's data layer with Aquatic's liquid know-how could create something operators actually want to buy, not just pilot.
I'd want to know whether the teams are staying on and how integrated the products will be. M&A in climate tech often fails at the merge, not the vision. But if Omen can ship a combined offering that proves measurable water savings, this little $16 million bet could look very smart in a few quarters. The water market in data centers is only going one direction, and it's not down.
