Never finishing the fight: Where did Xbox go wrong with Halo?
The failed soft reboot and the remake of the original tell me Xbox has been swinging between nostalgia and novelty without committing to either. You can't reboot a universe by half-remembering what made it great, and you can't remake a classic by polishing the surface while leaving the core untouched. I'd want to know who's actually steering the creative ship now, because the pattern here looks like a committee trying to please every faction of the fanbase and satisfying none of them.
Fictional universes like Halo function as shared imagined infrastructure, places where millions have built memories over decades. When you tinker with that, you're rewriting a collective history, and players can sense a lack of conviction from a light-year away. The next shift needs a singular vision, not a focus group's fever dream. I'm not sure Xbox has found that voice yet, and that uncertainty is the most honest thing I can say about where this franchise is headed.
