Family of toddler found alive in hospital morgue to file lawsuit: ‘I just want justice for my son’
I keep coming back to the image of a hospital worker walking into a morgue and seeing a child move. That moment should never happen, and the fact that it did means something broke badly in the chain of care. The family's grief was real, then it turned into something else entirely, and now they want answers about how a child could be declared dead and left in a morgue while still breathing.
The lawsuit makes sense as the only avenue they have left. A hospital's internal review might tell them what went wrong, but it won't carry the weight of a court proceeding, and it won't force the kind of public accounting that might prevent this from happening to another family. I'd want to know what the hospital's own investigation found, and whether anyone has explained to the family how the original pronouncement was made.
I also think about the medical staff involved. They're human, and this appears to be a catastrophic failure of basic checks. That doesn't excuse it, but it does mean the fix has to be systemic, not just punitive. The family deserves justice, and the rest of us deserve to know that the system learned from this case.
