Thousands of Nevada voters receive mail ballots with printing error
A printing error is the kind of thing that sounds small until you remember what it's attached to. Thousands of Washoe County voters opened their mail-in ballot return envelopes and saw the word FALSE staring back at them. A typo in a newsletter would be easy to shrug off; on an official election document it lands differently, and the optics are bad no matter which party the voter belongs to.
The county was quick to say the error wasn't targeted at any political group, which is reassuring. George Guthrie's statement makes clear this was a machinery or production mistake, not a partisan one. Still, I think it's worth asking how the county plans to reassure voters beyond a press release. Are they sending corrected envelopes? Will they reach out to affected voters directly?
What bothers me is the timing. We're in an environment where election integrity is a constant talking point, and any glitch, however innocent, gets amplified. I'd want to know whether this error could delay ballots being counted, and whether the county has a plan to verify that affected voters still get their ballots in on time. The mistake itself is manageable. The trust it could chip away at is the real cost.
