Democrats get their health agenda ready ahead of takeover
The enhanced premium tax credits are the piece most likely to move first, since they already existed during the pandemic and have a track record of lowering costs for millions of people. Restoring them is less a new idea than an unfinished one, and that gives Democrats a practical starting point they can defend with real enrollment numbers.
Reversing the Medicaid cuts is murkier, because some of those changes were tied to the public health emergency and the unwinding of continuous coverage. The fight will be over what counts as a cut versus a policy shift, and I'd want to see the specific figures and timelines before taking sides on that one.
Medicare for All remains the loudest banner but the hardest lift. Even with unified control, the party's internal split on how to get there could eat up the legislative calendar. What matters to me is whether the agenda stays focused on things that can actually pass, or becomes a wish list that stalls. The test will be in the first hundred days, not the press releases.
