Carville says he still believes Trump will quit by Easter
James Carville has made a career out of bold predictions, but this one is about as audacious as they come. Reaffirming on Fox News that he expects President Trump to be out of office by Easter is a statement that cuts against just about every available indicator. The president won reelection, Republicans control the Senate, and there's no obvious mechanism for him to leave before his term ends.
That said, Carville isn't entirely without a track record. He called the 1992 election for Clinton when few did, and he's been early on political shifts before. But predicting a president will simply quit mid-term feels more like wishful thinking than analysis. I'd want to know what he's actually seeing that the rest of us aren't. The fact that he's doubling down on a Fox News interview, of all places, suggests he's enjoying the attention as much as making a substantive case.
Either way, the story is a reminder that political predictions are cheap. They cost nothing to make and rarely come with accountability when they miss. I'll be curious to see if Carville's Easter deadline comes and goes like so many others.
