Progressive group calls for Senate Dems to replace Schumer as leader
The timing is curious. Democrats just won both chambers, and the first big ask from a progressive group is to push out the Senate leader who helped get them there. You'd think a win would quiet internal critics, but Indivisible sees it as the moment to demand change.
I get the frustration. Progressives have long argued Schumer is too cautious, too willing to deal with the caucus's conservative wing. A fresher, bolder leader could sell a more aggressive agenda. But I'd want to know who replaces him. Schumer knows the Senate's machinery and just ran a successful campaign. Swapping that for a new face might cause infighting right when the party needs to deliver.
Perhaps this call is more about signaling the future than removing Schumer now. A victory doesn't dissolve the progressive appetite for leadership change, and the next few weeks will show how that shapes the party's organizing.
