El-Sayed: I’ll go through metal detector if Trump sits for lie detector
There's something almost refreshing about El-Sayed turning Trump's metal detector jab into a lie detector dare. It's quick, it's got a point, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. But I also wonder if we're losing the plot here. Two grown men trading conditions about machines that beep and blink is not what a Senate race in Michigan should be about, especially with real issues like the auto industry and healthcare on the table.
The metal detector comment came from Trump, and El-Sayed's response was measured enough, saying he'd go through it if Trump sits for a polygraph. That's a fair trade on its face, though neither condition is likely to happen. What bothers me is how easily this kind of theater swallows the campaign coverage. Voters deserve to hear where El-Sayed stands on tariffs or the cost of insulin, not just how he handles a taunt.
I'd want to know what the campaign plans to do next to steer the conversation back to policy. Because if this is the peak of the back and forth, we're all going to be bored by November.
