Justice Department sues to block Alaska results if Sullivan loses
The timing here is what I keep coming back to. The administration is asking a court to hold open the possibility of blocking certification before a single ballot is counted, which is unusual. Lawsuits about elections usually come after results, not before them.
I understand the concern about election integrity, and plenty of voters on both sides have genuine worries about how votes are counted. But a suit that only matters if a specific candidate loses is hard to read as anything other than a contingency plan. That doesn't automatically make it wrong, but it does make it worth watching closely.
What I'd want to know next is what the administration's actual legal argument is. The reporting cuts off before giving those details. If there's evidence of a real problem with Alaska's voting process, that's one thing. If it's purely about the outcome, that's another. The court will decide, and I'd want to see the reasoning either way.
