Tillis says itās āappropriate to take a look atā Alaska ballot with two Dan Sullivans running
Two Dan Sullivans on one Alaska ballot is the kind of mix-up that sounds like a punchline until you're the one staring at the names. Tillis is right that it's worth a close look, especially since the DOJ has already stepped in. Voter confusion is a real risk, and the state's decision to let both candidates share that name, or the way the ballot was designed, deserves scrutiny.
At the same time, I'd want to know what the actual evidence shows. Did enough voters pick the wrong Sullivan to change the outcome? Or is this more about the appearance of fairness? Tillis's phrasing, calling it appropriate to take a look, is careful, but the lawsuit means the courts will decide, not just the Senate.
Elections depend on people trusting that their vote counts for the person they intended. If that trust is shaken by a naming coincidence, the fix should be clear and transparent. I don't have a strong opinion yet on whether the result should stand, but I'd want to see the ballot, the numbers, and the state's explanation before landing anywhere.
