Incoming House Oversight chair to Republicans: ‘Lawyer up’
Two words, and suddenly the Oversight committee's whole mood changed. Robert Garcia's "lawyer up" warning to Trump administration officials reads like a threat but functions as a promise. Democrats just won control of the House, and Garcia is taking the gavel with an agenda already in motion.
Oversight is cyclical. When Republicans held the chair, they spent their time on Hunter Biden and the border. Now Democrats are back, and they'll turn the spotlight on the administration's spending and personnel decisions. That's how the game works, and both parties know it. The officials who get subpoenaed this time were probably comfortable watching the last round of hearings from the other side.
I'd want to know what Garcia actually targets first. The statement is vague by design, but the real story is that the committee is about to get very busy, and the administration's legal team is about to earn its keep. That's the job of oversight, whether you like the party doing it or not.
