Data Centers, Power Bills, Hurricanes: What’s at Stake for the Environment in Florida’s Senate Race
Sixty-one percent is a big number, but the two-to-one margin is the real story. Even the pollster was surprised, which tells me how often we assume voters will pick jobs and growth when the choice is framed that way. In Florida, that assumption looks shaky.
This matters because the Senate race isn't abstract. Data centers are straining the power grid, electricity bills are climbing, and hurricanes keep testing what the state can absorb. Voters seem to be connecting those dots: protecting the environment is part of keeping Florida livable, not a side issue.
I'd want to know how candidates translate this into policy, and whether the poll's wording nudged people toward the environment. But the direction is clear. If Florida's voters are this worried, ignoring them is a political risk as much as an environmental one.
