Trump’s deal with Putin will have little impact on US diesel prices, experts warn
I keep coming back to the timeline. Even if the deal were perfect, diesel doesn't teleport. Weeks at sea, port logistics, blending into U.S. supply chains: by the time any barrel arrived, whatever price spike it was meant to soothe might already have passed. That's the part that makes this feel less like energy policy and more like a signal sent for other reasons.
The refineries point is even more telling. Russia's capacity to export is not what it was, not with the damage they've taken. So we're talking about a promise that may not even be fulfillable. I'd want to know what the actual volume figure is, and whether it could even match one day of U.S. diesel consumption. My guess is no.
And Zelenskyy's rejection of the "energy ceasefire" framing adds a layer of spin versus substance. This deal seems aimed at showing strength to domestic audiences, but markets are pretty good at seeing through gestures. The real question is whether these sanctions lifts are a one-off or the first crack in a broader policy. That would matter far more than a few tankers.
