A$AP Rocky Announces First Australian and New Zealand Tour in Eight Years
Eight years is a strange stretch for a rapper to skip a whole region. In that time, A$AP Rocky went from testing the mainstream to being a fashion fixture, a father, and a figure in a high-profile trial. The fans who saw him last time might be bringing kids now. The ones who discovered him since have only seen him through screens.
I think the Don't Be Dumb title carries some weight here. It reads like a dare, or maybe a shrug at all the detours. Five arenas is a confident bet for someone who's been away that long, and December in Australia means festival season energy, even if this is his own show.
What I'd want to know is how he handles the nostalgia. Whole crowds will want the 2016 setlist, but he's clearly moved on. If he treats these dates as a victory lap instead of a fresh statement, that's a different show. Either way, eight years of anticipation is a hard thing to meet, and I'm curious which version of him shows up.
