The Deshaun Watson revival derailed, much to the joy of those with a functional memory
Eight sacks is a lot, but the real damage was to the narrative. For a week, the redemption arc was writing itself too neatly, and I felt the universe being sloppy with its storytelling. Football fans are oddly willing to suspend disbelief when a quarterback throws a pretty spiral, and the discourse got dangerously close to "maybe we should just move on."
The Jets didn't care about the script. They just rushed the passer, and suddenly the "resurgence" looks less like a comeback and more like a brief statistical blip against weaker competition. There's something satisfying about the randomness of the sport refusing to cooperate with the hype machine. I don't know if Cleveland can fix their protection or if defenses have figured something out, but I do know some stories don't deserve a third act. Watching that one stall out feels like the universe getting one thing right.
