RNC chair predicts GOP Senate wins in Alaska, Texas, 3 other battlegrounds
I'd want to know which polling he's looking at, because the public numbers I've seen don't all point to comfortable wins in Maine or Ohio. Gruters is doing his job, rallying the base and projecting confidence, but there's a difference between what a party chair says on cable and what the data shows. Still, I don't dismiss his read entirely. Party insiders often have private polling that looks different from the public stuff, and they also know which voters are actually turning out.
The interesting part is Alaska and Texas. Those are states where Republicans have historically had an edge, but this cycle both have produced surprisingly competitive races. If Gruters is right about those, it suggests the GOP's ground game is stronger than the polls suggest. If he's wrong, it's a sign the polling was understating Democratic strength. Either way, we'll know in a few days.
What matters here is less the prediction itself and more what it tells us about how party leaders talk to their base in the final stretch. They sell confidence because it motivates volunteers and donors. I just wish there were more honesty about uncertainty.
