Porsche’s electric Macan Turbo is an automotive existential crisis
630 horsepower on an electric crossover is the easy part. The harder question is whether the Macan Turbo EV can carry the weight of the nameplate's reputation while hauling around that 100-kilowatt-hour pack, and I suspect the answer has more to do with how it corners than how it launches.
The existential crisis in the headline is fair. The Macan was Porsche's volume seller, the car that quietly funded the 911s and Caymans. Moving it to electric means the financial backbone now depends on battery tech that ages fast, and on buyers who may not be ready to trade the internal combustion character they associate with the badge.
I'd want to know real-world range and how the added mass shows up in the bends, because that's where Porsche earns its premium. The spec sheet promises plenty, but the proof will be in the test drive and in whether longtime owners feel the soul survived the swap.
