GOP lawmaker says he will move to expel Omar
The interesting detail here is how carefully Fine worded this. He's not moving to expel Omar now, he's saying he will if a federal investigation finds she broke the law. That conditional matters, because expulsion needs a two-thirds vote, a threshold reached only a handful of times in House history.
That Fine is the one carrying this also matters. His past description of Omar as a "terrorist" drew a rare rebuke from House Democrats, and it's hard to separate this resolution from that history. I don't doubt he holds genuine convictions, but the framing feels less like a procedural matter and more like political positioning.
What I'd want to know is what the federal investigation actually examines. The story doesn't tell us, and that gap should matter to voters. If there's real evidence of wrongdoing, expelling Omar deserves a serious hearing. If this is about settling scores, the high bar for expulsion protects her regardless. Either way, the burden of proof stays on the accuser, not on a single member's rhetoric.
