Elizabeth Holmesās partnerās AI startup worries Theranos whistleblower
I keep thinking about the phrase "opportunities to redeem themselves" because it's doing a lot of work in this story. Cheung isn't saying the startup deserves a clean slate, she's saying people do, and those are different things. Her concern is easy to understand. Theranos burned through trust in a way that made everyone in Silicon Valley warier, and AI is a space where hype can outrun reality just as easily as blood testing did.
What I'd want to know is what this startup actually claims to do and who's funding it. Theranos showed what happens when hype outruns actual proof. The same risk exists in AI, especially when a leader carries a complicated history that might make people either too trusting or too quick to judge.
The redemption angle matters as much as the caution. I wouldn't want a world where one person's failures permanently disqualify them from building things again. But redemption has to be earned through transparency and accountability, not assumed because enough time passed. Cheung seems to hold both thoughts at once. That strikes me as exactly the right posture.
