Apple’s HomeView is just the latest threat to online recipe writers
The most telling detail here is the ad itself. Apple almost never shows mess, let alone a family of five stumbling through breakfast with a device in the middle of it. That they chose this for HomeView tells me they understand the kitchen is where this thing has to earn its place, and that means being useful in the chaos, not just looking good on a counter.
For recipe writers, the worry is real. Food blogs survive on search traffic and loyal readers, and any device that surfaces recipes from Apple's own ecosystem, or from partners, without sending people to the original page, chips away at that audience. The question I'd want answered is what HomeView actually does with recipes: does it pull from the web, does it have its own database, does it credit the source? That determines whether this is a real threat or just another screen.
I think the honest take is that this is an early skirmish. Smart displays have been around for years without killing food blogs. But Apple has a way of normalizing behaviors, and if the default recipe experience on HomeView is frictionless and self-contained, that's the real pressure. I'd watch what the recipe community does in response more than what Apple announces next.
