Burnham had two hospitality dinners with Man City chairman, deleted records show
I think the deletion is the part that deserves the attention. Dinners with a club chairman are routine for a mayor who represents a football city, and Burnham has never hidden his sympathy for City's position. But someone took the trouble to erase the records, and that's the sort of detail that turns a non-story into a genuine question.
What I'd want to know is why those records were deleted and by whom. Was it standard housekeeping or something more deliberate? Burnham has been outspoken about the Premier League's case against City, so his credibility depends on showing these dinners were harmless. The club's guilt on rule breaches makes it harder for him to wave this off as politics as usual.
I'm not ready to say this proves anything improper, but it does mean Burnham owes the public a clear explanation. In a story built on deleted paperwork, the absence of an answer will speak louder than any denial.
