OpenAI says it's doubling Pro usage limits and bringing Work features to Chat
I keep wondering what "Work" means once it lives inside the same chat box where I ask for pancake recipes. OpenAI folding those capabilities into regular Chat feels like a quiet admission that the boundary between professional and personal AI use was always artificial. Doubling Pro limits while merging allowances across ChatGPT and Codex also points to a future where your coding assistant and your writing assistant are just one assistant, with one wallet. That's convenient, but it makes me ask what happens to the idea of separate tools with separate constraints.
The interesting part is the usage math. If Pro users get more room, and that room is shared across products, then OpenAI is betting that people will stop thinking in terms of "chat sessions" and start thinking in terms of total compute. That could change how we budget our curiosity. I'd want to know whether the combined allowance means Codex tasks eat into ChatGPT time, or whether they've found a way to make the pool feel bigger than the sum of its parts.
I land on cautious optimism. More room to experiment is good, but I hope the fine print doesn't turn "doubling" into a reason to throttle heavy users later.
