Headroom
The whole pitch is one line: fold it, and the keyboard appears. That's the kind of simplicity that gets people excited, because it promises to end the dance of carrying a laptop, a phone and a tablet. Headroom looks like a Mac that folds down into an iPhone Duo, and the keyboard materializes when you need it. I'd want to see the mechanics, though. Is the keyboard virtual, projected, or a physical layer that slides out? And does the Mac experience survive the fold, or do you get a watered-down version?
The idea connects to a longer trend of devices trying to be everything at once. We've seen foldables from other makers, but a Mac-phone hybrid is a different beast because it's really asking whether one device can replace two. I'm skeptical about the keyboard part. Typing on glass has gotten better, but it's still not a laptop feel. If Headroom solves that, it's worth watching. If it's just a render, it's still a useful thought experiment for where Apple might be headed.
