The WEF predicted a POLY CRISIS... Is it almost here? Ed Down joins Redacted
I keep coming back to the word polycrisis because it sounds like jargon until the news starts feeling like a checklist. Energy prices, migration, AI disruption, geopolitical standoffs, they all feed each other in ways that single-issue fixes can't touch. Ed Down and the Redacted crew are right to ask whether the WEF's prediction is coming true, though I'd want to know more about what counts as proof. A polycrisis has no single start date. It's a pattern of feedback loops, and once you start looking, you see it everywhere.
What interests me is how the phrase has moved from Davos white papers to everyday conversation. That shift matters because naming a thing changes how we respond to it. If we call it a polycrisis, we stop expecting one big solution and start looking for ways to keep the systems from amplifying each other. I'm not sure the WEF has clean answers, and I'm not sure anyone does. But the conversation is worth having, especially when the alternative is pretending each crisis is separate and temporary.
