Watch live: Trump seeks to boost GOP in Ohio amid final sprint to midterms
Ohio used to be the reliable starting point for any national Republican strategy, and the fact that Trump is flying in twice for this race tells you how much the math has changed. Husted is the sitting senator, but Brown has deep name recognition and a populist streak that still plays well in working-class corners of the state. Trump can fire up the loyalists who show up for him personally, but the question is whether that energy translates into votes for a candidate like Husted or mostly just reminds swing voters why they left the GOP in the first place.
I think the Senate control angle is what really matters here. One seat can flip the whole chamber, and Ohio is one of the few truly close races left on the board. Both sides are betting that turnout, not persuasion, decides it, which is why you see a former president stumping in the same state twice in one week.
I'd want to know how Husted's own team is framing the visit. A Trump rally can be a net positive for base turnout, but in a state where independents have drifted away from Trump in recent cycles, it could just as easily hand Brown another talking point. The live coverage will be worth watching for crowd size and energy, but the actual result comes next Tuesday.
