Final Dune: Part 3 Trailer Confirms Timothée Chalamet Is the Oppressor
The trailer finally says the quiet part out loud. Paul isn't a reluctant hero anymore, he's the guy who'll sacrifice billions to hold the throne. Herbert wrote this eighty years ago, and it took three films for Hollywood to stop selling it as a simple hero's rise.
What I find interesting is how the marketing has shifted. The first film sold Paul as a chosen one. Now the trailer frames him as the villain, and that's a hard pivot for a franchise that needs audiences to stay invested. I'd want to know how much of the book's second half they're keeping, because the jihad is the hardest part to adapt.
I think it matters because we keep telling stories about charismatic leaders and then act surprised when they turn authoritarian. Dune has always been the antidote to messiah worship, and it's good to see the film finally embracing that. I just hope the final cut doesn't soften the ending.
