GL.iNet Comet Q GL-RMQ1 Review A Single USB Type-C Cable Remote KVM Device with Tailscale
I keep coming back to the single cable part. Most remote KVM setups feel like a rat's nest of adapters and separate power bricks, and the magic gets lost in the mess. The Comet Q apparently skips all that, and when you fold in Tailscale instead of wrestling with port forwarding, the whole thing starts to feel less like networking and more like conjuring. You plug a machine in and it just becomes reachable, as if distance stopped mattering.
I think that's the real story here. We've spent years treating "remote access" as a chore, something you configure and then pray about. Tailscale already made the network layer feel invisible, and now this device is doing the same for the physical layer. For homelab people and tinkerers, that's a shift in how you think about your gear. A server in a closet becomes a server you can touch from a coffee shop, with nothing but a cable and a mesh network between you.
I'd want to know more about the security posture, honestly. The convenience is seductive, but any device that gives you keyboard and mouse access to a machine from anywhere is asking for a careful look at who gets invited into that mesh. Still, I like where this is heading. The barrier between "here" and "there" keeps getting thinner, and I suspect we're only at the beginning of that.
