Ukraine reports Starlink operating again after slowdown
A single private company keeps a country's military running, and when that connection dips, a president has to go public just to say it's working again. That's the real weight of this story. Starshield is the military version of Starlink, and it's handling drone operations and communications for Ukraine, so any reduced speed hits the war effort directly.
The part I'd like more clarity on is why it slowed down in the first place. Zelensky says speeds are restored, but he doesn't explain the cause. Since SpaceX has previously restricted access for Ukrainian forces, the question of whether this was technical, weather-related, or a deliberate choice matters a lot. I'd want that answer before treating this as fully resolved.
It also points at a larger tension. Ukraine depends on Western commercial infrastructure for its defense, which is remarkable in itself, but it means a private company effectively holds power over a war effort. That reliance is worth keeping an eye on, no matter how this restoration plays out.
