IntelĀ® GPU D-series

IntelĀ® GPU D-series
Intel's GPU D-series is making a bold play for the AI inference market by loading up on memory instead of leaning on pricey HBM. The pitch is straightforward: inference workloads need to hold big models in memory, but they don't demand the extreme bandwidth that training does. If Intel can deliver a chip with a massive pool of conventional memory at a friendlier price point, it could shake up who gets to run serious AI workloads and what it costs them.

The D-series bet is a smart one. HBM is expensive and scarce, and for inference you're mostly streaming weights through the chip rather than hammering it with training data. If Intel can stuff a GPU with a big pool of regular memory, that changes the economics for anyone running large models in production.

I'd want to see the actual memory capacity and bandwidth figures, because that's where the rubber meets the road. If the bandwidth is too low, you'll stall waiting for data to arrive. But if Intel pulled it off, this could be a real contender in a market Nvidia currently owns outright.

It also plugs into the broader fight over cost per token. Everyone is scrambling to make inference cheaper, and memory has been the bottleneck. A D-series that trades raw bandwidth for capacity could be exactly what serving workloads need, especially for teams that can't justify HBM prices.
