Sanders, Wyden press insurers on Trump ACA coverage terminations
Ten of the biggest health insurers just got pointed questions from Wyden and Sanders about how they handled those Trump-era coverage terminations. The core issue is how much a private company should verify before dropping someone's plan when the administration cries fraud.
I'd want to know what the letters actually ask for, like whether they want data on appeals or evidence of individual reviews. That matters because the whole fight hinges on whether these were precise fraud fixes or a blunt instrument that caught honest enrollees who made small mistakes.
Fraud needs to be addressed, but coverage is life-or-death for many. A transparent appeals process and solid scrutiny of the insurers' decisions would help. I'll be watching to see what the companies actually reveal.
