Trump announces deal for Russian diesel as Zelensky calls it a gift to Putin
Zelensky's phrase "investment in war" is the one that sticks with me. There's something almost alchemical about how diesel becomes bombs, how a transaction at a desk in Washington turns into fire on the front lines in Ukraine. We like to think of energy as neutral, just molecules and combustion, but this deal strips that illusion away.
I keep wondering about the strange thermodynamics of conflict. Every gallon of Russian diesel carries a history, the pipelines, the tankers, the money changing hands, and that history ends in a war that Ukraine says should be over. Trump's logic, if there is any, seems to be about lowering prices at home. But Zelensky sees the same molecules and reads them as a lifeline for the Kremlin.
I'd want to know the actual terms of the deal, the volumes, the timeline. Because the difference between a gesture and a flood is in the numbers. For now, the weirdest part is how a single shipment can be two completely different things to two presidents: a bargain to one, a betrayal to the other.
