AI minister warns 'likely' UK's cyber defences will be breached
A government minister openly saying breaches are likely is rare honesty, and it tells you something about how far the digital arms race has come. The plan to fight AI with AI is bold, but no one is pretending the wall will hold.
I think this points to a deeper shift in how we think about security. For decades the model was build a higher wall, but if the attackers are also using AI, the wall becomes irrelevant. The game changes from preventing entry to detecting and responding faster than the other side thinks. That's a strange place to be, and it's hard to see how it ends well for anyone who isn't already inside the fortress.
What I'd want to know next is whether the AI defence systems themselves become targets. If you can corrupt the defender, you don't need to breach the wall at all. The minister's warning feels like a quiet acceptance that we've moved into a new phase, where the best outcome is a draw, not a victory.
