Bluesky wants to make it easier to buy, sell, and fundraise on the network
I've been watching Bluesky's monetization story with some skepticism, mostly because every social network that says it won't rely on ads eventually finds its way back to them. So the fact that executives are openly talking about commerce and fundraising as a path is worth paying attention to. It's a bet that people will pay to transact with each other rather than pay to be advertised at.
The interesting piece is how this lands with users. Bluesky's early adopters are deeply suspicious of algorithmic feeds and data harvesting, so any commerce feature has to feel native, not bolted on. If they can make tipping, marketplaces, or creator funds feel organic, that could work. If it feels like a storefront grafted onto a timeline, it'll get pushback fast.
I'd want to know what the actual mechanics look like. Who processes payments? What cut does Bluesky take? Those details will determine whether this is a real alternative or just a different flavor of the same monetization grind.
