Trump denies limiting Ukraine access to Starlink network
The most unsettling detail is the speed curbs themselves. A quiet technical tweak to a satellite link could have cost lives in Kyiv before anyone could file a protest. Ukrainian drone operators and artillery units lean on Starlink for coordinated fire in real time, so a throttled connection becomes a battlefield variable that somebody far away controls remotely. I'd want to know how much bandwidth was cut on Tuesday night, whether Ukrainian commanders were warned in advance, and how the military adapted.
This resonates beyond the fighting in Ukraine. Every emergency service, any relief agency running on satellite internet, is watching this and recalibrating. One company owns the constellation, and one leader has said publicly that he can influence it. That concentration of control is a new kind of geopolitical leverage, and no treaty or contract really covers it.
The denial makes sense as a political move, but the raw description says the limits happened. I'd rather trust the telemetry on the ground than the statement from Washington.
