Trump praises âproud, resilientâ Libyan people after labeling country âterror-infestedâ
The most telling detail here is the speed of the pivot. One day Libya is âterror-infested,â the next its people are âproud, resilientâ and worthy of peace. That kind of whiplash is common in political messaging, but it also shows how easily a whole country gets reduced to a rhetorical prop.
Iâd want to know what, if anything, changed between the rally and the Truth Social post. Libyaâs situation didnât suddenly improve over a weekend. The country still has divided governments, foreign meddling, and real security threats. So the softer language might be aimed at a different audience, or it might just be an attempt to soften a blunt phrase after it drew attention.
Either way, the substance matters more than the adjectives. The U.S. does have counterterrorism interests in Libya, and a partnership only means something if it comes with actual policy. Praise without a plan is just a compliment. Iâd rather see the administration explain what it intends to do there than trade one label for another.
