Trump, Republicans spend big in midterm homestretch
The timing here tells you almost everything. You don't drop $400 million plus a $50 million transfer unless you think the races are genuinely tight and every last dollar could tip a district. Trump's political operation has become a permanent fixture in Republican campaigns, and this move keeps that machine running at full throttle through the final days.
I'd want to know where exactly that money is going. Broad numbers are easy to announce, but the real story is which candidates get the biggest shares and which media markets are being flooded. That would tell us where Republicans think they're most at risk.
The bigger picture is that both parties have been spending at historic levels all cycle, and this is just the last wave. Whether it actually moves voters is another question. By now, most people have made up their minds, so the real test is turnout. Money can buy ads and field operations, but it can't manufacture enthusiasm where it doesn't exist. I'll be watching to see if these late dollars translate into anything measurable on Election Night.
