Watch: Giant inflatable pumpkin rolls down North Carolina road
I like that the pumpkin had the decency to pick a state famous for its strange autumn phenomena. North Carolina already has the Brown Mountain Lights and the Lake Norman monster, and now it can add a runaway inflatable gourd to the tourism brochure.
The wind took it, sure, but I'd want to know how big this thing was. If it's the size of a car, that's a legitimate hazard. If it's the size of a beach ball, it's a cute video. Either way, someone at that farm is going to be checking their stakes and tethers a lot more carefully next October.
This kind of thing gets at how we treat seasonal decorations as permanent fixtures. We stake them down, plug them in, and forget they're just plastic balloons with delusions of grandeur. The pumpkin didn't choose to roll down that road. It got caught in a gust and made the best of it. I respect that.
