Kansas, Maine Senate races neck and neck: CNN poll
The numbers in Kansas and Maine are essentially tied, which makes the millions both parties are pouring in feel like a test of whether advertising can move anything at this stage. A lead inside the margin of error is a coin flip, and the CNN/SSRS sample could easily be off by a point or two in either direction.
What I find interesting is that these are two very different states. Kansas is reliably red at the presidential level, while Maine has a history of splitting its votes between parties. Yet both are showing the same kind of dead heat, which suggests the national environment is doing more work than local branding.
I'd want to know how the undecided voters break, because there's always a chunk who only make up their minds in the final days. If they lean toward the challenger in both states, the polls could look stale by Tuesday. If they stay home, the narrow leads hold. Either way, both parties are right to spend the money, because a point or two is all that separates a win from a recount.
