Blanche: Alaska Senate race is ‘not a fair fight’ to Trump
The name similarity is a legitimate headache, not a phantom. If a voter rushes through a ballot and sees Dan Sullivan twice, some will pick the wrong one, especially in a race that doesn't get national attention. I'd want to know who that other candidate is, whether they're a sincere independent or someone placed there deliberately, and how many times the name actually appears.
That said, the "not a fair fight" framing from the White House reads as preemptive spin. Every party gripes about ballot mechanics when it fears a loss, and both sides have used this playbook before. The bigger tell is what it says about Republican confidence in Alaska, a state that leans red but has delivered surprises before.
I take the confusion risk seriously while hearing the politics in the complaint. Name collisions on ballots are a real, fixable problem worth fixing regardless of who benefits. Whether it flips the seat depends on turnout and on how voters read intent, which we won't know until the ballots are counted.
