Pentagon advances some wind projects after freeze
The detail that stands out to me is that a court order was needed to get these projects moving. The administration froze wind projects under Pentagon review, and now a judge has effectively said that freeze went too far. Two projects in Maine and South Dakota are the first to come out the other side.
I think the real story here is the tension between national security concerns and the push for renewable energy. The Pentagon has legitimate reasons to scrutinize projects near military installations, and that review process shouldn't be rushed. But when a freeze looks more like a policy preference than a security assessment, courts are going to step in.
I'd want to know what the Pentagon's actual concerns were for these two projects and whether the court ruling sets a precedent for the rest of the frozen projects. The administration may have released these two, but that doesn't mean the broader freeze is over.
