BaseTab AI

BaseTab AI is turning the most overlooked piece of real estate in your browser, the new tab page, into an AI-powered command center. Instead of a static grid of shortcuts, it promises a workspace where AI handles tasks the moment you open a fresh tab. It's a small surface with big ambitions, tapping into the rush to put AI everywhere we already work. For founders and operators who live in browsers all day, this could be a subtle but meaningful shift in how we kick off every session.

I've seen a dozen attempts to own the new tab page over the years, from iGoogle to Momentum to a pile of startpage clones, and most of them fizzle because they're just pretty wallpapers with a clock. The interesting bet here is making that first moment of the day actually productive, dropping an AI assistant into the place where you're about to decide what to work on. I like the instinct. The new tab is the last passive screen in the browser, and if an AI can turn it into a jumping-off point, that's a real workflow change.

But I want to know how it distinguishes itself. Every extension now claims to be an AI workspace, and the honest ones admit the hard part is context. Does it read your open tabs, sync with your calendar, remember your projects? That's where the value lives, not in a chat box that happens to sit on a new tab. I'd want to see how it handles privacy too, because giving an AI full visibility into your browsing habits is a serious ask.

Still, I think there's something here. The browser is the office now, and that front door is worth fighting over.
