Mullin says deportations will continue
The most telling detail here is the timing. Mullin posted this right after Democrats swept both chambers, and he didn't hedge. No "we'll review our approach," no nod to the voters. Just "Deportations will continue." That reads less like a policy announcement and more like a declaration that the administration views the midterms as a mandate to double down, not to adjust course.
I think the real story is the collision course. Democrats ran on opposing the crackdown, and some used "abolish ICE" as a rallying cry. Now they control the House and Senate, but the executive branch controls enforcement. They can hold hearings, try to cut funding, and issue subpoenas. What they can't easily do is force the administration to stop deporting people. So the next few months will be about leverage, and Mullin just drew a line in the sand.
I'd want to know how Democratic leadership plans to respond, and whether there's any appetite for a spending fight over ICE's budget. The gap between campaign rhetoric and governing reality is about to be tested, and that's where this gets interesting.
