Teacher Killed in Oregon School Shooting Was Working Her ‘Dream Job,’ Family Says
Megan Lambert graduated from the very district where she died, and that circularity is what keeps pulling at me. She came back to teach in the same hallways she once walked as a student, and her family says it was her dream job. Dream jobs aren't supposed to end like this, with a shooter in the room and children gone.
I think the hardest part is how ordinary the setup was. A teacher at her alma mater, a classroom full of kids, a day that turned into a nightmare. Rhoam Summer and two other children died with her, and I can't square the scale of that loss with the small, specific details we're given.
I'd want to know more about who Megan was beyond the headlines, what she taught, how she laughed, what she told her students on their first day. But maybe that's just my way of holding onto something human in the middle of something senseless. The universe doesn't owe us symmetry or meaning, and this story has neither. It's a tragedy, and it deserves to be grieved as one.
