Trump fires back at Obama’s Cheesecake Factory jab
The Cheesecake Factory jab is a small thing, but it tells you something about how both men choose to fight. Obama picked an aesthetic insult, a way of saying Trump's taste is loud and generic, and Trump responded by turning it back on him at a rally in Mississippi. Neither side is really talking about policy here, and that's the point.
What interests me is the venue. Corinth, Mississippi isn't a swing state battleground or a national spotlight moment. Trump chose to answer this in front of a friendly crowd, which means the response was less about persuading anyone and more about performing for the base. That's been the pattern for both men since leaving the White House: they trade personal shots through proxies, rallies, and statements, while the actual governing questions sit off to the side.
I'd want to know whether this exchange moves any voters, or if it just feeds the endless loop of former presidents sniping at each other. My guess is it does neither, but it keeps both of them in the news cycle, which might be the real goal. It's a spectacle, and we're the audience.
