Lingering Democratic divisions could preview 2028 challenges
The timing is telling: Democrats are weeks from the first primary votes, yet the infighting is already front and center. That says a lot about how raw the 2024 loss feels and how uncertain the party is about its direction.
I think the House gains matter more than the primary spectacle. If Democrats can point to concrete wins, they have a story for 2028 that doesn't depend on relitigating the past. But if the primary becomes a fight over old fault lines, those gains risk getting drowned out.
What I'd want to know is whether the divisions are mostly policy or personality. Policy fights can be productive and eventually resolve. Personality battles tend to linger and hurt in a general election. I'm not convinced the party is doomed, but the early signs suggest the next few months will reveal whether Democrats have learned the right lessons or found new ways to argue about the old ones.
