Quentin Tarantino Confirms He’s ‘Written a Script’ for His Tenth Film, But Won’t Pursue It Yet Because He Wants to ‘Live a Little’
I keep thinking about what it means to hold a finished script and not film it. Tarantino's whole brand is built on the idea of a perfect, self-contained filmography, and now he's got the last chapter written but he's sitting on it. That's a strange kind of power, holding the ending of your own story in a drawer.
The "live a little" part is the interesting bit. He's made a career out of cinematic violence and talky standoffs, but the decision to wait suggests the real drama is happening off-screen, in the ordinary days between play rehearsals and press nights. I'd want to know what's in that script, obviously, but I'm almost more curious about what "living a little" looks like for a guy who has spent his life inside other people's stories.
There's something almost scientific about this, in a weird way. He's treating his own career like an experiment with a designated endpoint, and now he's extending the observation window. Maybe the tenth film gets better for the wait. Maybe it never happens at all. Either outcome feels like a story worth telling.
