Piers Morgan, Katie Zacharia tangle in contentious interview: ‘You sound like a robot’
The "robot" jab is the kind of line Morgan knows lands well on social media, but it also points to a real problem in political interviews. When someone takes a job in the Trump White House, even for five days, they can't expect to walk away without answering for it. Zacharia's evasiveness practically invited the charge, whether or not she deserved it.
That said, there's something uncomfortable about watching a host hammer a guest for not relaying private conversations that might involve other people. If she was bound by confidentiality, or simply didn't want to burn bridges, her dodging makes a kind of sense. Morgan's style works when the guest is dodging facts, but it gets muddy when the target is the guest's own discretion.
What I'd want to know is what actually happened during those five days. The interview seems to have produced more heat than light, and that's a shame. A shorter, sharper line of questioning might have gotten her to say something real instead of forcing her into the defensive crouch that made her sound robotic in the first place. The story matters because it shows how quickly a legitimate question about accountability can turn into a performance, and viewers are left to guess where the truth sits between the host's theatrics and the guest's stonewalling.
