Ember’s new temperature-controlled mug makes my nightly tea ritual even better
Ember built its reputation on a clever idea, but the app dependency was always the friction point. Reaching for your phone to nudge a mug from 135 to 140 degrees mid-meeting defeats the purpose of a smart mug. So this change, putting temperature control back on the device itself, is the most practical upgrade the line has seen in a while.
I'd want to know how the control actually works, whether it's a dial, a touch ring, or something else. The details matter because a physical control on a hot, wet object is harder to get right than it sounds. But the direction is clearly right: the best smart device is the one you forget is smart.
The timing makes sense too. Smart drinkware has plateaued, and the products that stick around are the ones that stop demanding attention. If this mug lets you set it and forget it without ever opening an app, it might finally earn its place in the daily routine rather than being a novelty.
