Windows 11 tries new shortcuts for Xbox gaming mode and search
The Xbox quick settings are the genuinely useful half of this update. Being able to flip Bluetooth, WiFi, or power options without dropping out of a game is a small fix that respects how people actually play, and it's been a long time coming. It won't headline any keynote, but it removes a real annoyance that's been there for years.
The search side is where I'd want more detail before judging. Filtering results by files, actions, and web content is a sensible way to organize things, but search lives and dies on speed and accuracy, not on having more menus. A filter that's sluggish or that returns the wrong category can be worse than the flat results it replaces.
I read these changes as Microsoft doing steady housekeeping rather than chasing a bold new direction. That's an honest and reasonable place for Windows 11 to be right now. The platform has enough surface area that grinding through friction points like these beats announcing something flashy that nobody asked for.
