Obsession Director Curry Barker Releases a Surprise Horror Short on YouTube
Curry Barker built a name on Obsession, the kind of short that gets passed around group chats because people need someone else to have seen it. So a surprise drop of Mama Bear, with a warning that nobody can be told what it is because it's really weird, feels like a direct appeal to that same energy. I'm in.
The interesting part to me is the distribution. YouTube horror shorts usually need a hook, a title that explains itself, a thumbnail that sells the twist. Barker is betting the opposite: that mystery plus a trusted name is enough. And it probably is, for his audience. Obsession proved he can make something unsettling on a small scale, and the surprise release lets the film arrive without weeks of hype to deflate it.
I don't know what Mama Bear actually is, and the vague tease could easily be overpromising. But I'd rather click on a weird thing I can't describe than another trailer that gives away the whole movie. That's the trade-off that makes this kind of release work.
